Support Group
Mission Statement: EmpowerTogether is a support group dedicated to providing a safe and supportive space for individuals living with HIV/AIDS to share experiences, find strength, and empower each other to live positively and thrive.
Objectives:
- To foster a sense of community and belonging among individuals affected by HIV/AIDS.
- To provide emotional support, encouragement, and empathy to group members.
- To share knowledge, resources, and practical tips for managing life with HIV/AIDS.
- To promote self-care, resilience, and empowerment among group participants.
Group Structure:
Frequency: Weekly meetings
Duration: 1-2 hours per session
Format: Facilitator-led discussions, peer support, guest speakers, and interactive activities
Confidentiality: All discussions within the group are confidential, creating a safe space for sharing personal experiences and concerns.
Meeting Agenda:

Welcome and Introduction
- Greet participants and introduce new members.
- Review group guidelines and confidentiality agreements.

Check-In and Sharing
- Each participant has the opportunity to share how they've been since the last meeting.
- Encourage open and honest communication, allowing members to express their feelings and experiences.

Topic Discussion
- Facilitate a discussion on a specific topic related to living with HIV/AIDS, such as treatment adherence, disclosure, stigma, self-care, or relationships.
- Provide relevant information, resources, and practical tips on the topic.

Guest Speaker or Activity
- Invite a guest speaker, such as a healthcare provider, counselor, or community advocate, to share insights and expertise on a relevant topic.
- Alternatively, engage in an activity or exercise aimed at promoting self-awareness, relaxation, or empowerment.
5. Closing and Reflection
- Summarize key points from the discussion and guest presentation.
- Invite members to reflect on what they've learned or gained from the meeting.
- Share any announcements or upcoming events.
Support Resources:
- Provide information and referrals to healthcare providers, support services, and community resources.
- Maintain a resource library with books, pamphlets, and online resources on HIV/AIDS-related topics.
- Offer access to counseling services or peer mentorship for additional support outside of group meetings.
Facilitators:
- Facilitators are trained volunteers or professionals with experience in HIV/AIDS support and group facilitation.
- They create a welcoming and inclusive environment, encourage participation, and ensure that discussions remain respectful and supportive.
Joining the Group:
- Individuals interested in joining the EmpowerTogether support group can contact the organization or attend a meeting to learn more.
- New members are welcomed with open arms and encouraged to participate at their own comfort level.
